Notes

USSVI National Logo There were 24 NC Subvets at this year’s parade along with several wives representing the Carolina Piedmont, Nat Greene, and Tarheel Bases. Our 3 Uncle Sams made their debut at this parade and will be used again at the two upcoming Fourth of July parades. The usual good turnout of parade spectators was evident as this is the only Memorial Day Parade in North Carolina. After the parade, we set up the parade submarine and Mk-14 torpedo as part of a static display located in the stadium. Four paratroopers dropped from 10,000 feet into the stadium as part of the post parade activities. Also Rudy Hernandez a Korean War Congressional Medal of Honor recipient was recognized as part of this year’s memorial program. At the 2010 Burnsville meeting the Carolina Piedmont Base made Rudy an honorary submariner.
