Notes

USSVI National Logo Once again the Carolina Piedmont Base hosted the annual Burnsville meeting on Friday (May 20) and Saturday (May 21). This year’s meeting was held at the Skyline Lodge, a rustic inn with a great view, located just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The inn had a large meeting room with a bar and pool table that allowed us to have a great hospitality room for the two days. The owners of the inn also provided our buffet dinner on Saturday night. Paul Myers from the Carolina Piedmont Base contracted a small local combo who provided music for both listening and dancing after dinner. There were 28 Subvets from the Carolina Piedmont, Nat Greene, and Tarheel Bases at the memorial service held on Saturday afternoon. Hoppy Hopkins provided a 48 star American Flag as well as a Union Jack to fly over the memorial during the service.

Hoppy also played “Taps” at the end of the “Tolling the Boats”. Tony Valovich and his wife were in attendance at the memorial service as well as the dinner. Tony won several of the raffle prizes. He is keeping the memorial in great shape and the rhododendrons on the hill were in full bloom this year for the memorial service.

Well done to NC Subvets Commander Steve Bell for again making the arrangements for this year’s meeting. We are planning on holding next year’s meeting at the same location.
